Justin Vernon (alias Bon Iver) ja Aaron Dressner (The National) ovat nerouden ja edelläkävijyyden aallonharjalla. Big Red Machine on herrojen uusi komeasti kajauttava projekti, jonka elokuun lopussa julkaistavalta debyyttialbumilta julkaistiin juuri neljä ihanaa makupalaa. Lisäksi miehet esittelivät uuden digitaalisen palvelun PEOPLE, joka sekin on kaikessa yhteisöllisyydessään aivan järjettömän hienon kuuloinen (PEOPLEsta lisää alempana).
Päivän biisinä hienon gospelmaisesti svengaava pop-helmin Hymnostic, joka on silkkaa nannaa kaikille Bon Iver- ja National-diggareille, tai no varmasti muillekin. Kappale on niin hieno, että se olisi The Nationalin tai Bon Iverin julkaisemana klassikko. Siksi kannattaa kuunnella.
Big Red Machinen ja PEOPLEn tarina ja visio on mielenkiintoinen. Dressner ja Vernon tekivät yhteistyötä nyky-indien käänteentekevällä Dark Was The Night -kokoelmalevyllä vuonna 2008. Herrat eivät olleet tuolloin vielä tavanneet kasvotusten, mutta Dressner lähetti Vernonille instrumentaalisen aihion kappaleesta, josta Vernon sai inspiraation ja työsti aihiosta kokoelmalle soolobiisin nimeltä Big Red Machine.
Nyt kymmenen vuotta tuon jälkeen miehet ovat ystävystyneet ja pyöritelleet idoita sen verran kauan, että on aika eri taiteilijoiden uuden PEOPLE-palvelun ja Big Red Machine -yhtyeen syntyä. About PEOPLE
PEOPLE is a steadily growing group of international artists who have come together to create and share their work freely, with each other and everyone. It was born out of a wish to establish an independent and nurturing space in which to make work (generally around music) that is collaborative, spontaneous and expressive in nature.
PEOPLE is for the benefit and development of the artists involved and, just as importantly, for those who would like to access and enjoy the output. It is as much about the process of making work and showing all that openly, as the final outcome.
PEOPLE, August 18-19, Berlin
August 12-19, 2018, PEOPLE will come together in Berlin for a week-long residency. On August 18 & 19, the doors will open for two days of public performances, where the artists will share their findings across seven Stages of the Funkhaus.
It’s about new material, collaborations, unique arrangements and dissolving borders. The Funkhaus, built in the 1950’s, is the historic site of the radio and recording HQ of the former East German Republic.

PEOPLE digital platform
Building on these physical encounters, PEOPLE has created a digital platform to evolve and share ideas around the year. Currently in beta / testing form here for the public: see beta.p-e-o-p-l-e.com for all the raw, the unpackaged, the experiments and the evolved ideas.
Just like the gathering in Berln, this too is an artist-lead, independent environment which uniquely offers the opportunity to the contributors to provide all the rich context to all their work that appears there. Everything is available for free, though the audience is invited to become members. The platform will launch officially in August.
